The Mediterranean region is known for its biodiversity and rich ecosystems. Nature-based Solutions (NbS) play an important role in conserving and restoring ecosystems, contributing to climate change mitigation, as well as improving resilience. The need to reverse biodiversity loss, mitigate and adapt to climate change, requires transformation in all sectors. These complex policy challenges are exacerbated by the transboundary nature of the Mediterranean areas, creating challenges for governance.

With the support of the Mission for Natural Heritage Community, the Working Group on Ecosystem Restoration and Nature-based Solutions will focus on addressing Target 2 of the Global Biodiversity Framework. This working group will focus on ecosystem restoration and will promote Nature-based Solutions, especially focusing on:
Collecting and promoting restoration best practices and NbS (monitoring/management/methodologies) for restoration practitioners and decision-makers based on the thematic projects’ outputs.
Identifying barriers (policy, governance, social, funding) to the upscaling of restoration in the Mediterranean and how to overcome these.
Identifying degraded ecosystems in need of restoration in the Mediterranean and potential NbS for implementation, addressing trade-offs, land/sea-use conflicts, socio-economic factors, and impacts on local communities.

We want to initiate the discussion with you around ecosystem restoration and Nature-based Solutions!!

What challenges are you facing when involved in policy drafting and the implementation of technical solutions? How can the Mission for Natural Heritage support you in these processes?

Do you have any good practice, lesson learned, solution or tool you can share with us that could help us in the process?

We read you in the comments πŸ‘€
