Euro-Mediterranean Water Forum – NHM side event

Water resilience is becoming a major challenge across the Mediterranean as climate change, water scarcity and increasing pressures on natural resources affect both ecosystems and communities. Strengthening resilience requires integrated governance approaches that connect environmental protection, territorial development and climate adaptation.

The Interreg Euro-MED Natural Heritage Mission and Sustainable Tourism Mission communities are coming together to the Euro-Mediterranean Water Forum with a dedicated session, entitled “Water Resilience in the Euro-Mediterranean Region: from Policy to Action”, that will be held in-person on 30th of September 2026, in Rome, Italy.

This workshop will explore how thematic projects from both Missions (WatHer, WATERISE, AQUAMAN, RedeeM) are contributing to more sustainable and resilient water management, and how their experiences can help inform policies and governance frameworks.

This year the Euro-Mediterranean Water Forum will be held from 29th of September to 2nd of October 2026, in Rome, Italy, bringing together policymakers, civil society, academia and businesses to address one of the Mediterranean’s most pressing challenges – water security.
The Forum provides a platform for dialogue and cooperation across the Euro-Mediterranean region, with this year’s programme focusing on the multiple dimensions of the water challenge — from water scarcity and extreme events to water quality, governance, technology, finance and hydrodiplomacy. Its overarching ambition is to work towards a more secure, sustainable and inclusive water future for the Mediterranean.
