This capacity-building session is organised within the Natural Heritage Mission’s Working Groups. It responds to pressing challenges in the Mediterranean region, where conservation efforts in coastal and marine zones are often constrained by fragmented governance, limited resources, and insufficient cross-sectoral coordination.
The webinar aims to deepen participants’ understanding of key legal and policy instruments shaping natural heritage conservation in the Mediterranean coastal zone. Participants will benefit from a fully plenary-format session combining expert-led presentations and interactive discussion. The agenda includes:
- An in-depth keynote on how policy is shaped at the Euro-Mediterranean level and how stakeholders can effectively influence it to support conservation goals.
- Legal and political frameworks guiding Mediterranean coastal conservation, including practical guidance for implementing instruments on the ground.
- Insights on spatial governance, highlighting the interrelation between legislative tools and planning processes.
- A special segment on the upcoming United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC), with information on opportunities for participation, side events, and coordinated engagement through the Mission community.
Through this event, Working Group members will be empowered to engage more actively in policy processes at both regional and Euro-Mediterranean levels, helping to translate legal frameworks into impactful conservation action.
