Our work
Strengthening Governance for Mediterranean Nature
The Natural Heritage Mission is dedicated to strengthening governance and policy integration by fostering transnational cooperation, multi-stakeholder dialogue, and the mainstreaming of nature-based solutions into effective policies and governance frameworks.
The Mission implements a set of flagship activities to protect, restore and valorise natural resources across the Mediterranean.
Community building and support
A rich Community of Practice is at the Mission’s core. It encourages the exchange of experiences, co-design of the activities and advance of joint initiatives through major community events – Annual Institutional Dialogues, thematic webinars, community of practice gatherings, workshops and networking meetings.
Public engagement
The “Solve the Challenge” campaign highlights the issues like coastal erosion and environmental governance, and engages the public through storytelling, events, and interactive tools to inspire dialogue and joint action.
Policy/Practice Empowerment
One of the Mission’s main ambitions is to bridge scientific knowledge with actionable policies that can be adopted at local, national and regional levels. This requires continuous dialogue and co-creation among policymakers, researchers, planners – a process that requires commitment and long-term strategic alignment.
Sharing Knowledge and Results
The exchange of knowledge is an objective commonly shared among the Governance projects and Thematic projects of the Mission. Jointly, a comprehensive, educational programme is designed, offering online courses and including various learning formats (video lectures, reading material, live workshops, etc.) to achieve capacity building, promote solutions, and increase coordination among stakeholders working and acting in the Euro-MED area.
Transfer of Knowledge and Solutions
A key innovation is the Amplification Room, within which the Mission is fostering clustering activities. Various geographic, thematic, and peer-review clusters, with flexible dynamics and community-needs-based objectives, aim to amplify the transfer of the projects’ results and solutions.
